Greg Valenza advises the Firm’s clients regarding the gamut of employment law issues.  From reasonable accommodation to layoffs, wage-hour compliance to arbitration, and other employment agreements, Greg helps clients comply with ever-changing and expanding federal, state, and local employment laws and ordinances.  He is well-known among lawyers and human resources professionals as a knowledgeable employment lawyer who gives practical and accurate advice.

Greg also is an effective trainer. Using humor, real world examples, and his business experience, Greg communicates legal concepts with a unique, conversational style.  Attendees’ reviews confirm that Greg gets the message across without being tedious or too “lawyerly.”

Greg has tried several cases, and litigated and arbitrated close to a hundred others.  He also has filed briefs in and/or argued before the U.S. and California Supreme Courts, federal circuit courts of appeals, and the California Court of Appeal.  Greg uses his extensive litigation experience to help clients analyze and mitigate risk.  He also partners with clients and their outside counsel to achieve favorable results.

A prolific and skilled writer, Greg managed the Firm’s blog, ”What’s New in Employment Law” for 13 years.  He has edited, authored and co-authored hundreds of articles on employment law, and has been quoted as a subject-matter expert in numerous publications.

Greg spent his first 14 years with a large employment-law boutique, including four years as managing partner of that firm’s San Francisco office.  He founded Shaw Valenza LLP with Jennifer Shaw in 2006.

People would be surprised to know: Greg grew up in New York City and worked in his father’s restaurant. He worked in various capacities in hotels and restaurants before going to law school.
